Aurexaurv
Rf:: Soil and Groundwater Abatement Report
Aggregate Industries F Street Facility

409 F Street
Greeley, Colorado
Project Number 1001013
Dear Ms. Davis:
The purpose of this report is to summarize the results of the soil and groundwater abatement
activities performed at the above-referenced site in May and June 2001. As requested, two
(2 i copies of this report were submitted to the Colorado Department of Public Health and
Environment (CDPHE). A copy of this report .vas also submitted to the Weld County
Department of Environmental Health. The approximate location of the site is shown on
Figures 1 and 3 in Appendix A of this report.
1. BACKGROUND AND HISTORY
The subject facility is leased by Aggregate industries West Central Region, Inc. (Aggregate
Industries) and is used for the mining of aggregates and production of asphalt pavement. A
10,000-gallon diesel-fuel above-ground storage tank (AST) was utilized at the site for the
fueling of on-site machinery and vehicles. The AST was installed at the site in h4ay 3000.
A different dispenser with new underground piping was installed at the site in March 2001
and the modified fueline system was placed into operation on April 17, 2001 after the
electrical service fcr the dispenser was completed.
During the reconciliation of the April '_001 inventory records for the AST, it was discovered
that a release had occurred from the diesel-fuel svstem. The AST was taken out of service
on Mav 1, 3000 due to the discrepancy in the April 3001 inventory records. The release was
investigated by Aggregate Industries personnel beginning on May 1, 3001 and was
confirmed on May 7. 3001. The release was reported to the Colorado Department of Public
Health and Environment (CDPHE) by Ms. Jamie Gaboriau, Regional Environmental
Manager, of Aggregate Industries on Mav 3. 2001. The AST is anon-regulated tank
pursuant to the Colorado Storage Tank Regulations since the tank was utilized at a mining
tacility. According to Mr. Roger Doak of the CDPHE, the CDPHE reviews releases from
non-regulated tanks using the same criteria established bv_ the Colorado Department of Labor
and Employment Oil Inspection Section (OIS).
ENVIRONMENTAL ENGINEERING AND GEOHYDROLOGY
