Memo to Hydrology File - 2 - January 26, 1990
This change in head is not surprising for a confined aquifer in the steeply
dipping anticlinal structure.
The coal well, lA, has a sodium sulfate geochemistry and a TDS of 2000 mg/1.
The 330' well may be exhibiting a head of 300', although no completion data is
available.
The overburden well, 1B, exhibits characteristics of grout contamination.
Within a year of construction, the pH jumped to 11 and in 1989, the pH read
12.5. The well needs to be permanently sealed and replaced. The operator has
no completion data on this well and thus the water level information is of
dubious quality.
The three other overburden wells, 4C, 5C, and 6C display a sodium bicarbonate
character and a TDS rating between 700 mg/1 and 2150 mg/1. The heads on these
wells are 166', 70' and 90' respectively.
CWB/yjb
3469E
