The area labelled "dry ponds" is two previous sediment ponds that no longer have water
on their surface. These ponds are being buried by the "backfilling" located to the north of the
ponds. These dry ponds are part of the reclamation process.
The "drying pond" is a previous sediment pond that still has some water on the surface.
The elevation of this pond is very near the final elevation required by the reclamation and is
part of the reclamation process.
The "active pond" is where sediment is currently being placed. This pond was just
recently created and therefore contains very little sediment.
Phase 1W:
The land labelled "graded" has been topsoiled and final graded. It is where a sediment
basin was located many years ago. Prior to its function as a sediment basin it was a coarse
gravel mining site. The soil has not been seeded and is currently occupied primarily by
weeds. By next year's annual report this will be seeded and will change status to
"revegetation."
East Side of Academy Boulevard:
Phase 1 E -south:
Mining has extended as far as about half way across this phase, but only about 1/3 has
actually been mined out. This is an extension of the previous mining in Phase 6E prior to the
amendment. Soil has been stripped ahead (east) of the mining area. Most of the soil from this
area is in the stockpile along the north edge of Phase 4E. The remaining soil is contained in
a protective berm along the south side of Phase lE -south.
Phase SE:
Mining in this phase extended southward from the mining area noted in last year's report.
Note that much of this mining occurred prior to final approval of the amendment. After
approval of the amendment, much of the mined sand came from Phase lE -south. Further
mining in Phase 5E is expected to be minor until after Phase 4E is completed. Mining that
would be required in Phase SE will be shifted to Phase lE -north so the new ditch route can
be prepared.
