Honeywood Coal Company
1996 Annual Hydrologic Report
1 Page 4
1 BW-3 is located southeast of the mining area. This well has contained measurable quantities of
1 water during two monitoring events, from the fourth quarter of 1990 through 1996. The well was
noted as dry during 1996.
Consumptive Use
7 None. The mine is reclaimed and is therefore idle. There was no water used at the mine site
J during the year.
Anticipated Impact
There was no recorded flow of surface water from the permit area into either Naturita Creek or
the San Miguel River during the year. Bramiers Draw and Section 33 Creek were noted as dry
during the year. Monitoring point H-2, Broad Canyon, was also dry during the year. There was
no discharge from the sediment ponds during the year and any minor surface run off from the
disturbed area is contained in the ponds. Based upon the above factors, it is unlikely that the
mine operation had any impact on the hydrologic balance of the area.
A signiScant precipitation event occurred at the mine site during 1996. A signiScant volume of water
was contained in sediment pond B which probably reduced the amount of downstream erosion and
potential flood damage in Section 33 creek. Tn this case, the mine operation improved the hydrologic
balance of the area.
