I New Field Seeding and Interseeding
The 2006 new field seeding consists of dryland pasture for a total of 22.8 acres. Seed mix
• #8 was applied for dryland pasture at 17.6 PLS/acre. Exhibits 2006-4 denotes the
locations of the aforementioned areas. To assist in the seed establishment and soil
stabilization; Triticale was co-planted with the approved seed mixes at a rate of 50
pounds/acre. The interseeding portion of this years seeding program consists of a
combination of dryland and irrigated pasture. Approximately 36.4 acres of irrigated
pastureland was interseeded in the spring. Approximately 58.5 acres of dry land in the fall
were interseeded, see Exhibit 2006-14 for locations and seed mixes. Attachment 2006-B
contains seed receipts and samples seed bag certifications.
Revegetated Land Fertilizer Rates and Pasture Yields
Fertilizer was applied in the spring of 2006. NH1 and NH2 fields are depicted on Exhibits
2006-1 and 2006-9 respectively where the mixes were applied, Soil sample results for
fertilizer rates are contained in Attachment 2006-A, test locations are in Exhibit 2006-9.
Rates varied from 0 to 3001bs/acre where applied. Two type's fertilizer mixes were used:
1) a 50/50 blend of 34-0-0 and 18-46-0, and, straight 34-0-0. NH2 first cut yields varied
from 689 Ib/acre to 4,168 Ib/acre are shown in Exhibit 2006-11, depending on the amount
of, fertilizer used, and frequency of irrigation. New Horizon Mine did not harvest in the NH1
area.
Weed and Pest Control Activities
Noxious weed control in 2006 consisted of several applications. Target species forweeds
were Russian Knapweed, Canada Thistle, White Top, and Western whorled milkweed.
• Spot spraying was done at NH2, see Exhibit 2006-5. The treated sites were small and
random in nature and too small to accurately plot on a map, however, the general areas
are depicted.
BackCountry Weed Management, Colorado License # 11410, of Norwood, CO, treated
noxious weeds. The principal weed herbicide was Tordon 22KTM . The chemical
application rate was approximately 2 quarts/acre. A surtactant and a marking dye were
used with the weed herbicides to maximize spray effectiveness.
A pest control program ran approximately two months this summer. The target pests were
prairie dogs in the NH1 area. A contractor applied weevilcide (Zinc Phosphide pellets) to
individual holes. This area is noted in Exhibit 2006-1. Approximately 14 acres were
managed for rodents in the NH1 Permit area.
Label requirements, recommendations, and conditions were followed for all chemicals used
in the weed management and pest control programs.
Acres in Long-Term Mining or Reclamation Facilities
As shown in Exhibit 2006-13, 57.20 acres are currently held in long-term mining or
reclamation facilities.
Acres in Active Mining Areas
• As Exhibit 2006-12 indicates, the 2006 active mine area disturbance was 86.5 acres. This
Exhibit includes leftover disturbance from prior years and is not considered to be long term
disturbance.
