Mr. Rick Mills - 7 - July 7, 1988
Well 009-79-4 -
This well indicates elevated values for not only iron, but also
cadmium and manganese. Sulphate measurements also indicate high
values.
Well 026-79-4 and 026-79-6 -
Relatively high manganese levels have been recorded at both of
these sites.
Spoil Wells
Five spoils wells are monitored; two are monitored for water level only, and
three are monitored for water level and water quality.
As indicated within the Annual Hydrology Report, the samples retrieved from
these wells have relatively high total dissolved solids, electrical
conductivity and sulphate values. Manganese values are also elevated.
Relatively high iron values are also observed, and dissolved cadmium values
equaled the receiving stream standard for total ca miu~ells 026-SP-1 and
026-SP-3 for the January 1987 analyses. ETe~ed nitrite was measured for
well 026-SP-3, also for the January 1987 sample.
Alluvial Wells
Six alluvial wells are monitored; three in the Foidel Creek alluvial deposits,
and three in the Fish Creek alluvial deposits:
Fish Creek Wells -
All of the wells indicate relatively high total dissovled solid and electrical
conductivity levels. The data indicate a possible increasing trend for
electrical conductivity and total dissolved solids at well 006-AW-2. As
discussed in the AHR, iron and manganese levels are consistently high.
Elevated cadmium levels are observed at Well 006-AW-2. It should be noted
that the nitrate value for the April 1987 analysis exceeds the value for
combined nitrate and nitrite, which indicates a probable analytical problem.
Please review this problem and correct the analytical process as necessary.
Foidel Creek Wells-
All of these wells indicate elevated electrical conductivity and total
dissolved solids. Electrical conductivity seems to be increasing over time.
Low fl ow may or may not explain this trend. Additional analysis of this
possible trend will be conducted: Sulphate is relatively high for all wells.
Iron, manganese and cadmium also exhibit elevated values. Elevated selenium
values were observed at all wells for the October 1984 analyses. This may
indicate an analytical problem.
