• Domestic Uses
Water used in the office/bathhouse facilities is potable water
hauled entirely from the City of Florence. The water is stored
in a cistern, and after use is discharged through a treatment
system into a leachfield. Consumptive use is considered to be
10~ of total consumption (Brogden, 1986). For the period of
record, consumptive use was 0.15 AC=FT. Since domestic water is
imported from outside the Newlin Creek Basin, the portion not
consumptively used is shown as a credit against consumptive use
(see table 7).
Mining Dust Suppression
Water is diverted from the surface water handling system to the
underground mine for mining dust suppression and coal transporta-
tion.
Surface moisture on the in-place coal also contributes a minor
portion of dust suppression water. Moisture remaining on the raw
(run-of-mine) coal transported to the surface is considered con-
sumptive use. Total consumptive use was 10.0 AC-ET for the
period of this report (refer to Table 7).
Determination of water consumption is based on analytical data
derived from whole core sample moistures and raw coal sample
moistures. Laboratory analysis of whole core samples indicate
that 8.338 of the coal weight is specific retention moisture.
Water removed with the raw coal from the Mine, specific reten-
tion, is "mined" water, or water which is not an active part of
the surface water system (Brogden, 1986). Consumptive use,
therefore, is the weight difference between the total moisture of
the raw coal (10.5$) and specific retention (8.330 , or 2.17$.
Calculated consumptive use is based on 626,005 raw tons produced
for the period of record.
Outside Dust Suppression
Water utilized for dust suppression on the Mine haul road and
yard area is a consumptive use. Road watering averages a use of
approximately 4,000 gallons per day, 21 days per month during
nine months annually. The resulting consumptive use was there-
fore 2.3 AC-FT for the period of record (refer to Table 7).
