• ENERGY FUELS COAL, INC.
SOUTHFIELD MINE
ANNUAL REPORT OF INFLOWS, DISCHARGES AND CONSUMPTION
OF WATER WITHIN THE MINE
(JUNE, 1988 THROUGH MAY, 1989)
MINE WATER INFLOWS
Southfield's Mine water inflows totalled approximately 16,244,000
gallons (49.8 AC-FT) for the period of record of this report
(refer to Table 1). The total inflow quantity is based on meter-
ed pumping records of water discharged from the 1st North sump
via the North Entry Well. The North Entry Well discharges all
Mine inflow to the surface water handling and treatment system
shown on Figure 2.
The 1st North sump is the central collection area for all under-
ground mine dewatering systems. In addition, the 1st North sump
area receives an undetermined amount of groundwater inflow from
fractures. All other mine inflows are collected in sumps
developed during the mining sequence and pumped in stages to the
1st North sump.
The majority of the total mine inflow is still derived from
inflow to the 1st North sump area from fractures and connections
to overlying abandoned mine workings. The 1st North sump is
inaccessible for monitoring purposes due to unsafe conditions.
Because inflow from the underground dewatering system into the
1st North sump is not metered, the 1st North Fracture inflow
cannot be reasonable estimated.
No significant mine inflow events occurred during the period of
record of this report. Inflow and seep locations are shown on
Plate 1. As compared to the previous monitoring period (1987
AHR, Plate 1), seep location no. 4 became so insignificant that
it is eliminated Erom the map. New inflow/seep locations,
designated nos. 6, 8 and 9 developed as a result of mining during
the 1988 AHR period of record. Inflow field quality data do not
indicate any significant problems or long term trends.
Mine water inflow quality monitoring data, obtained at accessable
locations, are aummarizec9 on Table 2. InE1ow temperature,
electro-conductivity and pH were monitored in compliance with
the approved permit.
MINE WATER DISCHARGES
Mine water discharges to streams occurred at NPDES Discharge
Point numbers 001 (Pond No. 1), 003 (Pond No. 2), and 004 (Pond
No. 5) totalling approximately 1,434,000 gallons (4.4 AC-FT),
shown on Table 3. All discharge points outfall to ephemeral
tributaries of Newlin Creek. The total discharge for the period
