SOUTHFIELD MINE
1988 ANNUAL HYDROLOGY REPORT
(JUNE, 1988 THROUGH JUNE, 1989)
INTRODUCTION
Energy Fuels Coal, Inc. (EFCI) operates the Southfield Mine
approximately eight miles south of Florence, Colorado (refer to
Figure 1). Underground coal mining and processing have operated
continuously for the period of record of this report.
The data incorporated in the 1988 Annual Hydrology Report (AHR)
pertains to the 1988 water-year, beginning June, 1988, through
June, 1989. This AHR is modified to include 13 months of water
monitoring data through the end of June (the end of the second
calendar monitoring quarter). Subsequent AHR's will incorporate
12 months of data from four calendar quarter monitoring periods.
For this AHR, annual mine inflows, discharges and consumptive use
are presented for the 12 month period of record beginning June,
1988 through May, 1989.
Water monitoring records compiled for this report were obtained
by Energy Fuels Coal personnel, and the previous operator,
Dorchester Coal Co. Data collected under the approved monitoring
program include quantity and quality of Mine inflow; quantity and
quality of water discharged to streams; streamflow measurements
and quality; and groundwater well levels and quality. Previous
monitoring data are included where necessary for. comparison.
This report provides a summary of annual Mine inflows, dischar-
ges, consumption of water within the Mine and hydrologic monitor-
ing records as required by Stipulation Number 6 of Colorado Min-
ing and Reclamation Permit Number C-81-H14. The report begins
with an analysis of water balance in the Mine based on inflows,
discharges and consumptive use. Surface and ground water moni-
toring information is discussed in the second part of the report.
All figures and tables, in general order of reference, are at-
tached following the text.
•
