Energy Fuels Coal, Inc.
Southfield Mine
•
QUARTERLY HYDROLOGY MONITORING PROGRAM
DATA SUMMARY
1994 ANNUL HYDROLOGY REPORT
INTRODUCTION
This section of the 1994 AHR presents all surface and ground water data collected at the
Southfield Mine from 1979 through the end of the reporting period (June 30, 1995).
Discussion of these data, including potential impacts and trends, follows below.
SURFACE WATER
Field and laboratory data collected from approved monitoring points on Newlin, Oak, Magpie
and Second Alkali Creeks are shown on water quality Tables 15, 16, 17, and 1 S. Stream flow
measurements for these monitoring locations is summarized on Table 14.
Stream flow occurred and was sampled on at least one occasion at each of the stream
monitoring points. Streamflow persisted for an um~sually long period in all the monitored
streams during the second quarter of 1995. These conditions resulted from the high
precipitation levels experienced during this period, previously mentioned in this report.
Although Second Alkali Creek experienced less sustained flow than the other monitored
creeks, EFCI did obtain a sample during April 1995. This sampling satisfies the requirements
of permit Stipulation No. 15.
Water quality in the monitored creeks, based on the attached data, shows no unusual or
detrimental trends. Insufficient data for Magpie Creek and Second Alkali Creek exist at this
time to determine water quality trends. Data for Newlin Creek and Oak Creek indicate that
levels of TDS, TSS, Ca, Nitrate, bicarbonate and Sulfate are lower or on average with
previous monitoring periods. Heavy metals for these two creeks are within acceptable levels
as compared to previous yeas data. No deterioration of Newlin Creek or Oak Creek is
apparent from the water quality data collected to date.
The approved surface water monitoring program effectively monitors the impacts of mining
operations on the surface water system adjacent to the Southfield Mine and loadout site.
Monitoring data documented through the period of this report indicate no significant impacts
to surface water as a result of mining operations.
n
f, J
