Energy Fuels Coal, Inc
Southfield Mine
• ANNUAL REPORT OF INFLOWS, DISCHARGES AND CONSUMPTION OF WATER
WITHIN THE MINE
1994 ANNUAL HYDROLOGY REPORT
MINE INFLOWS
The amount of mine inflow for the Southfield Mine during the reporting period is estimated at
49.9 AC-FT. This quantity is based on the combined total of water discharged from the North
Enlry Well, shown on Table 1. The estimated inflow is 15 percent greater than the previous
annual reporting period, and 22 percent under tt~e average (64.1 AC-FT) of the preceding
nine reporting periods beginning 1985. Mine inflow and seep locations identified during the
reporting period are shown on accompanying Map 1. The locations shown for this reporting
period are consistent with those of the previous reporting period.
All mine inflow and seep monitoring data is presented on Table 2, with each location keyed
to Map 1. Inflow and seep locations were monitored during the reporting period on an
opportunistic basis. Because Southfield is retreat mining most areas, inflows and seeps
monitored during the reporting period may become inaccessible later during the same period.
• Inflow sources numbered 3, 4, 5, and 6, depicted on Map I, are locations where inflows
from mined areas combine and enter accessible mine workings.
Review of Table 2, Mine inflow quality data, indicates that mine inflow quality is consistent
with inflow data presented in previous reporting periods. The estimated quantity for each
source shown on Table 2 is also comparable to the previous reporting period. The moderate
increased in total annual mine inflow was a result of increased inflow at source nos. 2 and 3.
Inflow to these sources is from fractures into old mine workings. These workings were
potentially recharged by unusually wet months including August 1994, and April ,May, and
June 1995.
DISCHARGES TO STREAMS
Water discharged to the stream system during the period of this report totalled 58.9 AC-FT,
shown on to Table 3. All water discharges were treated and managed through Southfield's
surface water handling system depicted on Figure 2. Discharge events were sampled and
reported in accordance with the approved Colorado Wastewater Discharge permit.
Water quality data for discharges to streams are summarized on Table 4. A review of these
data indicate that all discharges were within NPDES permit limitation. Samples submitted for
Acute WET testing from Outfalls 004 and 005 were also in compliance. These data indicate
that Southfield's water treatment system effectively reduces the potential of significant impacts
to State waters.
\J
