• Figure 2.
As mentioned in the Introduction, Technical Revision TROI-32 was approved in 3une 2001. TR 01-32
allows for suspension of many DMG hydrologic monitoring requirements while the mine is in TC. BTU EC
will continue to be responsible for adhering ro the monitoring requirements of its CDPS permit. Thus, this
AHR only addresses the data required under the TC monitoring plan:
• Bedrock well TRJA,
• Alluvial well AVF-5,
• Surface water sites (Williams Fork) WF-1, WF-2,
• CDPS (Permit CO-0034142) sites:
0 1) Mine discharge No. 5 Mine sump [CDPS Outfa11003, a.k.a. site SD];
0 2) Mine discharge 7 North Angle Well Bore [CDPS Outfa11024, a.k.a. site 9P3], and
0 3) Spring - No. 1 StripPpit [CDPS Outfall 022, a.k.a. site 1SP].
Table 1 presents a summary of hydrologic monitoring requirements for these sites under TC (modified from
TROT-32, Appendix D of the TC monitodng plan). Field parameters are outlined in Table 2. Water quality
monitoring includes field parameters (Table 2), surface water quality parameters (Table 3), and CDPS
parameters (Table 4).
3.1 Groundwater Monitoring
3.1.1 Bedrock Wells
Thtee sandstone aquifers are found beneath the subject site. In ascending order, they are: Trout Creek
Sandstone, Middle Sandstone, and Twentymile Sandstone. The Eagle No. 5 and Eagle No. 6 Mines are
located between the Trout Creek Sandstone and the Middle Sandstone.
Middle Sandstone: Under TC, Middle Sandstone well TR-7A is measured for water level and field
parameters on an annual basis, with no water quality analyses required. Field parameter data far TR-7A,
suggests no adverse impact or trend. 2005 field parameters are provided on Table 5. A summary of POR
water quality data is provided on Table 6. POR water levels and conductivity readings ue presented in
Figures 3 and 4, respectively. Historically, welt TR-7A has indicated a slight reduction in concentrations of
major ions over time.
3.1.2 Mine Water Discharge
Following approval of the TC Monitoring Plan, meter readings were no longer recorded for the 7 North
• Angle site (CDPS Outfall 024, a.k.a. site 9P3). While mining is in TC, the mine is being flooded and pumps
run periodically to maintain appropriate mine water levels. The Eagle No. 5 Mine sump dischazge is CDPS
3
I:\Env\Empire\AH R\2005\Text\Empire2005AH R. doc
