STATE OF COLORADO
DIVISION OF MINERALS AND GEOLOGY
Department of Natural Resources
1313 Sherman St., Room 215 Ji~
Denver, Colorado 80203 II
Phone: (303) 866-3567
FAX: (303) 832-8106
DEPARTMENT OF
NATURAL
RESOURCES
Roy Romer
DATE: October 7,1997 Governor
dames 5. lochhead
Executive Director
TO: Mike Boulay Mi<h,ei R. Lnng
Division Director
FROM: Jim Pendleton
RE: West Et me - 7/97 i-Annual Subsidence Data Report
t No: C-80-007)
I have reviewed Mountain Coal Company's July, 1997 semi annual (data only) subsidence report,
which you forwarded to my attention. The data on subsidence movement appears consistent with
earlier observations. Movements in the interim period since last fall's monitoring have been
minor, as expected. Cumulative subsidence continues to be less than originally projected in
Mountain Coal Company's subsidence evaluation
Ms. Johnston included brief discriptions of the visual observations conducted during the survey
transects. I assume this is in response to my review comments concerning their last annual
report. This is an improvement over previous reports. Combined with a map indicating the
location and orientation of the cracks and other features described, and photographs of the
features, my earlier concerns would be satisfied. If MCC requests additional guidance, I
recommend that you forward a copy of the Roadside Mine's visual monitoring report as an
example of the preferred style of presentation.
The report does meet the requirements and expectations for MCC's semi-annual subsidence data
report. As such, I recommend it's acceptance to the Division.
cc: Dave Berry
doc: M:\COALUAP\MTGSUB97.WPD
JP/jP
