This area covers
approximately 6 acres. The pre-law quarry area above the office will
also be seeded at this time. Erosion control and maintenance is
continuing as required.
(4) The species to be planted include Crested & Thickspike wheatgrass,
Sideoats Grama, Russian Wildrye, Indian Ricegrass, Fourwing Saltbush
Palmer Penstemon and Yellow Sweetclover as per the approved seed
mixture. Last Fall several roadcuts and sedimentation ponds were
also seeded with this mixture.
(5) Approximately 200 lbs of 0-46-0 fertilizer will be applied to the
areas being reseeded this September. An additional 2 to 4 tons of
compost will also be applied which will act as a fertilizer, mulch
and soil conditioner.
(6) The revegetation of the roadcuts has had marginal success. No soil
conditioner was applied to these areas therefore the soil did not
retain sufficient moisture for germination during the spring. Late
summer rains have however provided sufficient moisture to allow
clover and some grasses to germinate. Annuals have also invaded
these roadcuts. Next year these areas will again be evaluated and if
required, corrective measures will be taken. The application of
compost should help the soil retain moisture.
(7) CF&I plans to reopen the quarry this year. Because of the reduced
demand for Dolomite, mining operations will not affect any areas
previously undisturbed by mining. The mining, crushing and screening
operations are expected to cover approximately five acres of the
developed quarry.
(8) This report is current as of Sept. 15, 1987.
