<br />' 6.4.2 Application of Water <br />Water may be applied to fill materials within the borrow area or within the disposal azea using <br />water trucks and a frequency acceptable to the Engineer. It is the intent of this Specification that <br />adjustments in the moisture content be made principally within the borrow area. <br />6.4.3 Cohesionless/Sand and Rock Fill <br />' Sand fill materials shall be uniformly wetted only as necessary to facilitate placement and <br />prevent fugitive dust as outlined in Section 3.3. <br />6.5 Conduct of Work <br />' The Contractor shall route his construction equipment and take all other actions necessary to <br />' prevent material of the type required from being deposited inadvertently, within tireas which will <br />adversely impact hydraulic or structural performance. Any improperly deposite3 material shall <br />~ be removed from the embankment as required by the Engineer. The material temoved should <br />not be reused and shall be wasted in locations designated by the Engineer. <br />~ t Any stones of such dimensions that would interfere with compaction in the layer thicknesses <br />specified or impact performance, as determined by the Engineer, shall be removed from the zone <br />in which they are placed prior to compaction. <br />I' The Contractor shall maintain and protect fills in a condition satisfactory to the Engineer at all <br />times until [he final completion and acceptance of the work. Any approved fill material which <br />t becomes unsuitable for any reason whatsoever, after being placed in the fill and before final <br />acceptance of the work, shall be removed and replaced in a manner satisfactory :o the Engineer <br />at the Contractor's expense. <br />6.6 Compaction Equipment <br />6.6.1 General ' <br />' The Contractor shall provide sufficient compaction equipment of the types and sizes specified <br />herein as is necessary for the various fill materials specified herein. The Contractor will be <br />' permitted to use alternative equipment, provided the Contractor can demonstrate :o the Engineer <br />that such equipment will adequately compact the fill material to a density not less than that <br />' which would be produced by the equipment specified; and that no undesirable features, such as <br />segregation or stratification, will occur with the proposed alternate equipment.
