<br />5.1.2 Handline of Material <br />The Contractor shall use only the materials which meet applicable specifications, except as <br />allowed by the Engineer. Such materials may be placed in the designated fmal locations direct <br />from the source, or may be placed in temporary stockpiles and later placed in the final location <br />as approved by the Engineer. The Contractor shall perform excavation operations so as to <br />' facilitate stockpiling and rehandling of excavated material as required. <br />5.1.3 Cuts and Slopes <br />' The Contractor shall inspect all temporary and permanent open-cut excavatiotvs on a regular <br />' basis for signs of instability. Should signs of instability be noted, the Contractor shall undertake <br />remedial measures immediately and shall notify the Engineer as soon as possible. It will be the <br />Contractor's responsibility to remove all loose material from the excavation slopes and to <br />maintain the slopes in a safe and stable condition at all times during the progress of the work. <br />' Final borrow area cut slopes shall be no steeper than 3:1. Final surfaces shall be smoothed of <br />irregularities to the satisfaction of the Engineer. Final cut surfaces shall be sloped to drain so <br />that no ponding develops from direct precipitation and runoff. <br />5.1.4 Excess Excavation <br />' All necessary precautions shall be taken to preserve the material below and bey~>nd the lines of <br />excavation in the soundest possible condition. Where required to complete the work, all such <br />' excess excavation and overexcavation shall be refilled with materials meeting applicable <br />requirements and furnished and placed to the satisfaction of the Engineer. <br />5.1.5 Disposal of Excavated Materials <br />Excavated materials [hat are unsuitable for, or are in excess of, permanent construction <br />requirements shall be wasted. Waste piles shall be located outside the limits of [lie disposal area <br />as approved by the Engineer. Placement will not interfere with the natural flo•~v within storm <br />' drainage areas, with the operation of the tailings disposal area facilities or other mining <br />structures. They will neither detract from the appearance of the completed project nor interfere <br />' with the accessibility of the various parts of the work.
