1 <br />' The Contractor's attention is brought to areas within the overall work areas covered in this <br />Specification in which the Owner, or other contractors appointed by the Owner, will be <br />performing work. These include, but are not limited to, the mine and millsite azeas, the tailings <br />disposal area, waste rock disposal areas, and utility line corridors. <br />' The Contractor shall meet with the Owner and Engineer to establish the extent of the above <br />' areas and any other area which may impact the schedule or method of performing the work to <br />accommodate the work activities in the required areas. <br />' 4.0 SITE PREPARATION <br />' 4.1 Clearing <br />Clearing shall be done for the embankment raise foundation areas as shown on the Drawings. <br />Clearing involves removal of surface vegetation. The Engineer shall examine the exposed soils <br />' to determine their suitability as foundation soils. <br />The vegetative and soil materials removed during clearing operations shall be removed and <br />' disposed in topsoil stockpile areas as directed by the Owner. Topsoil stockpiles :;hall be located <br />adjacent to the final disposal area limits. Side slopes of topsoil stockpiles shall be no steeper than <br />2H:1 V. Topsoil stockpiles or new material placed in existing topsoil stockpiles shall be stabilized <br />' by seeding with a quick growing cover crop such as western wheatgrass. <br />' 4.2 Monitoring Wells <br />Monitoring wells located along the 8590 ft elevation embankment bench, along the crest of the <br />' existing embankment, and those outside of the tailings impoundment area shall be protected and <br />maintained in good operating condition throughout construction. The Contractor shall be solely <br />t responsible for the protection of existing monitoring wells designated for protection. Prior to <br />construction start-up, the Contractor shall familiarize himself with monitoring well locations and <br />clearly mark each well, as needed, to prevent accidental damage. In no case shal .damage to the <br />' monitoring wells be permitted; and if such damage does occur, all repairs or :-eplacement, if <br />required, shall be at the expense of the Contractor. <br /> <br /> <br />-8- <br /> <br />
