6.0 Mine Water Information
Outfall 011 -Sanborn Creek Mine Water Discharge
Outfai1011 is the OMLLC -CDPS mine water discharge point from Sanbom Creek Mine that
discharges into Sanborn Creek. Outfa11011 is sampled in accordance with the requirements of
the CDPS dischazge permit.
The data collected from Outfa11011, along with the results of laboratory analyses are presented
in Exhibit 2 -Groundwater Information. Minimum and maximum measurements for the
baseline year(s) of this resource maybe referenced in Oxbow's 1998 Annual Hydrology Report.
Although analyses of mine water samples may show higher levels than baseline data for some
parameters, based on a January 30, 1995, Colorado School of Mines, Division of Environmental
Science and Engineering final report entitled, "Aquatic Impairment Study of the Sanbom Creek
Mine Discharge, Somerset, Colorado", OMI believes that no impact resulted. The report
concluded that mine water dischazges from the Sanborn Creek Mine have minimal effect on
stream macroinvertebrates. Also, there is little, if any effect on the overall food base for fish,
and the use of the river for fishing is not impaired.
The Sanborn Creek Mine water drainage system is scheduled to be decommissioned in 2003 as
• the mine completes the last panel, the underground hardware is removed and the entries sealed in
accordance with MSHA requirements.
The CDMG has received copies of all required submittals of Discharge Monitoring Reports
(DMR's) and Whole Effluent Toxicity (Wet) testing reports to the Colorado Division of Water
Resources. No significant changes in discharges have been noted during 2002.

12
