Colony Shale Oil Project
Section 112 Annual Report
Sediment control ponds 3, 4, and 5 were cleaned in 4Q1999 and 1Q2000. As indicated in the
enclosed Figure 3 (Affected Land Status), the dredged material was spread in Area 5 over
approximately two acres that were previously reclaimed. Therefore the historic disturbance
inventory in the following table shows no new affected acreage and a decrease of two acres in
the reclaimed acreage. The area will be reseeded this fall and reported in our 2001 annual
report
As a result of pipeline activity associated with American Soda's Yankee Gulch Project
approximately one acre of ExxonMobil property was disturbed in order to construct a
temporary road at the southern property boundary. The additional disturbance is shown in
Area 4 of Figure 3 and in the table below. Reclamation of the road will be included in our 2001
annual report.
In addition to disturbances on ExxonMobil property, the American Soda project disturbed
approximately 1.5 miles of the Colony valley access road and pipeline easement that are on
Unocal property and are either active or were previously reclaimed by ExxonMobil. We
understand those disturbances fall under both the ExxonMobil and Unocal Section 112
permits, and Unocal is supervising the reclamation of those disturbed lands. Per discussion
with Messrs. Gregg Squire and Carl Mount during the 9/27/2000 Colony inspection regarding
reclamation responsibilities, we have not included a map of the disturbed areas on Unocal
property from this annual report and do not plan to include a map showing their reclamation in
next year's annual report.
During their 9/27/2000 inspection Messrs. Squire and Mount noted the condition of portions of
Coarse Ore Valley in Area 17 and suggested ExxonMobil grade the rough areas and improve
vegetation to prevent erosion. We have met on site with our reclamation and revegetation
consultant, Dr. Warren Keammerer, have begun to evaluate options for stabilizing the area,
and will submit a plan to the Division in 102001. Since the scope of work has not been
finalized, future Coarse Ore Valley stabilization is not included in the following table.
Permitted acreage 6778
Historic Disturbances To Date Past Year
Affected acreage 1134 1
Reclaimed acreage 104 -2
Planned Disturbances Next Year
Affected acreage 0
Reclaimed acreage 3
Beginning of active operations June 13, 1980
Date active operations ceased NA, ongoing
