A technical revision (TR-39) is pending approval and will address the ongoing erosion prevention
and maintenance of the 100 year and in-pit ditches.
No subdrain system is required by our permit, as geotechnical investigations for the disposal site
revealed no ground water present. Permanent out slope remain at approximately 80% complete on
the toe of sub-area 2-3 and approximately 50% complete on [he toe of sub-area 4. These slopes
appeared stable. Pit 5 consists of a thin layer of refuse over the entire area. A groundwater
monitoring well had been drilled between sub-areas 1 and 2-3. To date, no water has accumulated
in the well.
At the end of the second quarter a total of 1,879,469 tons of refuse have been placed in sub-area 2-3,
a total of 1,380,779 tons of refuse have been placed on sub-area 4, and a total of 228,134 tons of
refuse have been placed in sub-area Sa.
A total of 17 compaction tests were performed on sub-area 2/3 and five compaction tests were nm
on sub-area 4. All areas tested exceeded the required Proctor level of 90%.
The large cut and unconsolidated area in RP-2/3 lefr-over from the refuse storage of a few years ago
is being rehabilitated and prepared for further refuse storage. The storage of the refuse had wet the
underlying pile. This wet material is being removed, dried and then is being re-compacted. The re-
compaction process is being monitored closely for method and compaction. This process appears
to be working well and the rehabilitation process will hopefully be completed before the weather
turns bad for the winter.
Both the topsoil and subsoil piles for sub-areas 2-3 and 4 have been seeded and are stable. All of
these seeded areas plus the area disturbed during the reclamation of sub-area I show vegetative
growth. The topsoil and sub-soil piles along with the pond and other disturbed areas associated with
pit Sa mostly covered with vegetation despite a dismal growing season so tar this year. All organic
material and topsoil was removed prior to the storage of refuse in all areas.
Sub-area I has been reclaimed and is no longer in use.
The repair of the RP-4 refuse pond was checked and appears to be very stable. The results of the
geoteclmical investigation were received during August and a monitoring plan was worked out with
the DMG.
