species by twelve to seven. Both warm and cool season species contributed to the seasonality <br />of the 2000 reclamation areas. Warm season graminoids outnumbered cool season <br />. graminoids by eight to three. Cool season forbs prevailed by seven to one. <br />The 2000 reclamation areas had seven species contributing greater than three percent relative <br />cover this year. The species contributing greater than three percent relative cover included <br />three perennial grasses, one annual grass, one perennial forb, and two annual forbs. These <br />species included Bromus tectorum (38.72%), Calamovilfa longifolia (21.21%), Kochia <br />scoparia (8.42%), Bouteloua gracilis (6.73%), Panicum virgatum (5.72%), Medicago <br />lupulina (3.70%), and Ambrosia psilostachya (3.03%). <br />3.1.5 2002 RECLAMATION AREAS <br />The 2002 reclamation areas were preliminarily sampled this yeaz and encompass just over 13 <br />acres of reclamation in two distinct azeas within the Keenesburg Mine permit azea. The azeas <br />include Area 23, a small area immediately south of the haul mad and Area 25, north and west <br />of the haul road. One representative vegetation cover transect and herbaceous production <br />quadrat were sampled within each area this yeaz. These 2002 reclamation azeas aze both flat. <br />Initial seeding (Area 23) or reseeding (Area 25) with the permanent seed mix took place in <br />November 2002. Specific sampling information for the 2002 reclamation areas is contained <br />in Tables 10 and 11. <br />3.1.5.1 Vegetation Cover <br />• Total mean vegetation cover of the 2002 reclamation areas was 53.00 percent. Graminoids <br />provided 40.00 percent mean cover (78.21% relative cover) and forbs accounted for 13.00 <br />percent mean cover (21.79% relative cover). Total cover values were similaz between the <br />individual areas within the 2002 reclamation areas. Oryzopsis hymenoides, Ambrosia <br />psilostachya, and Helianthus annuus were encountered in both transects in both parcels. <br />Overall within the 2000 reclamation areas, Oryzopsis hymenoides was dominant, with <br />contributions of 23.00 percent mean and 43.59% relative cover. Eight of the nine species <br />encountered contributed three or more percent relative cover, including; Panicum virgatum <br />with 7.00 percent mean (15.38% relative cover), Helianthus annuus contributing 6.00 percent <br />mean total and 10.26% relative cover, Ambrosia psilostachya with 5.00 percent mean cover <br />(8.97°!o relative cover), Calamovilfa longifolia providing 5.00 percent mean (7.69% relative), <br />Agropyron smithii providing 2.00 and 3.85 percent mean and relative cover, and Bouteloua <br />gracilis with 1.00 percent mean and 3.85 percent relative cover. <br />Vegetative litter (prior yeazs growth, dead wood, and other biologic organic material) <br />comprised 22.00 percent ground cover overall within the 2002 reclamation azeas. Bare soil <br />comprised 25.00 percent of the ground cover.
