TuE SOILS <br />Loveland Series, <br />The T,oveland series is made up of deep, somewhat poorip <br />drained soils, These soils formed on terraces and bo'~tom <br />lands in loam? alluvium that overlies Gravelly and sst~dp <br />materials, Slopes are 0 to 1 percent, Elevations ar~~ <br />4,900 to 1,500 feet, The native vegetation is mainly <br />bluegrass and blue grams. Annual precipitation is 12 to <br />18 inches, Mean annual sir temperature is 48o to 52°F'., <br />and the frost-free season is about 140 to 155 daps, <br />In a representative profile the surface la?er is cslcsr- <br />eous, dsrk Gra~risn-brown light clay loam about 20 inct-.es <br />thick. It is :mottled in the lo~~er part. The underlying <br />material, about 10 inc`~es trick, is strongly calcareous, <br />grayish-brown light clan loam that is mottled, Under- <br />lying this to a depth of 60 inches or more is mottled, <br />light brownish-gray Gravelly sand, In the surface is?er <br />and un~erlying material soil reaction is mo:'erstelp <br />alkaline, and in the substratum it is mildly alkaline. <br />In most areas, gypsum crystals and soft lime segregations <br />are present in some layers, <br />Loveland soils nave ~o~erate oermeabilit•r, Available <br />water capacity .for the profile is :moderate to high, <br />• depending upon the depth to very gravelip sand. Roots <br />can penetrate to a d°pth of 60 inches or more, and the <br />seasonal hi¢h water table is at a depth of 2 to L{ feet, <br />These soils era used for pasture and crops.
