The A horizon ranges from 10 to 20 inches in thi~~kness
and from loam to ssndp clay lcem or clay loam in
texture. Depth to un2erlying ssnd end gravel ranges
from 10 to 20 inches,
Niwot soils (0 to 1 percent slopes) (Nh) - These soi_'_s are
oa stream terraces and bottoms in the eastern part of the
Area. In most places they occur as irretzularly shaped
areas more than 30 acres in size.
The profile of these soils is much like the one described
as reoresentative for the series, but the surface layer is
variable in texture. This laver ranges from sandy clay
loam to light Cla? loam or loam.
Ir.c1L~.ded with these soils in maopinp are small, almost
barren Eravel bars and small area of Toveland soils. Also
included are unnamed soils that are sandy, These included
soils and gravel bars cake up 15 percent of each mapped area,
?runoff is slow on these soils. The erosion hazard is
slight ex.ceot for back cutting near channels. Because of
their position in the landscape, t'.-.ese soils are frequently
flooded. They have a seasonal hir,h water table.
because of the 'nigh water table and the depth to ssnd or
gravel, these soils are best suited for use as pasture or
• meadow. These soils are also suitable ss a site for gravel
pits. In some ?laces a few small areas are used for irri-
gated crops.
