II IIIIIIIIIIIIIIII
~~ United States Soil
\ ~ Department d Conservation
Agriculture Service
• 1228 Main Street. Longmont, CO 80501 September 22, 1980
. ....
,-
Mr. Mack Graham ~~ '
Western Paving Construction Company
P. 0. Bax 21649
Denver, CO 80221
Dear Mack:
In answer to your request for soils and reclamation information on the
above parcel of land, we offer the following comments:
1. The soils and present land use are almost identical to
that already under permit.
2. The soils are predominantly of the Niwot series which are ~'
deep, somewhat poorly drained soils that are shallow over
gravelly sand. These soils are fo med on law terraces and
bottom lands in loamy alluvium superimposed over sand and
gravel. The native vegetation is mainly brome grass and
water-tolerant grasses. In a representative profile, sand
and gravel occurs at about 14 inches.
Niwot soils have moderate perTeability. Availabie water
holding capacity is low to moderate. Roots, however, can
penetrate to a depth of 60 inches. All of the acreage is
used for pasture, but sand and gravel mining of this soil
is increasing and is a recognized use in agricultural zoning
in Boulder County. -•
3. The reclamation plan should include:
a. Embankments should be sloped to not less than
3:1 to support plant growth and for safety
purposes in future use. ~~
b. Seed to a mixture:
Smooth brome (Manchar) 6.5,i P.L.S.
Orchard (Latar) 2.ON P.L.S.
Alfalfa (Ranger) Z.0li P.L.S.
