MOUNTAIN COAL COMPANY RECLAMATION
PHOTOGRAPH PROJECT 2004
Proiect Description
During the 2004 field season photographs were taken and photo-points were established
in several areas where Mountain Coal Company has been conducting coal exploration
and development activities since 1976. Photographs were taken on 43 drill sites. Twenty-
nine road points were established on approximately 7.1 miles of road. Field work was
accomplished on Apri126, 28 & 29; May 19 & 27; June 19 and October 2 & 4.
The project is best described in 2 parts. (See Figure 1: MCC RECLAMATION
PHOTOGRAPH PROJECT 2004)
Part 1: Pre and Post Reclamation 2004, consists of areas where reclamation was
completed in 2004. Drill sites accessed by Deep Creek Mesa Road, Long Draw Saddle
Road, Long Draw Road and the Horse Gulch Road near Two-ponds were involved in this
reclamation effort. (See Figure lA -Dry Fork Area)
Part 2: Reclamation 1996-2003, is in areas where reclamation was completed between
1996 and 2003. These locations aze accessed by the Deep Creek Mesa Road, West
Flatiron Road, West Point Road, Lone Pine Gulch and the Apache Rocks Road which
leads to the Thermal Event Area north-east of Jumbo Mountain. (See Figure lA -Dry
Fork Area; Figure 1 B -Thermal Event Area; and Figure 1 C -Lone Pine Area)
From one to several photographs were taken at each photo-point. Flagging or pin flags
were used to mazk photo-points. A dry ink boazd and marker were used to identify the
photo location, the general direction the picture was taken towazd and the date. GPS
coordinates were added for photographs taken on the Post Reclamation 2004 azeas on
October 2 & 4. GPS coordinates were recorded in degrees, minutes and seconds, of
latitude and longitude utilizing the WGS 84 datum. A Garmin Etrex Vista GPS unit was
used. Coordinates were recorded in field notes. All photographs were taken with a Kodak
digital camera.
The Reclamation Process
A series of labor intensive operations are required during site reclamation. These
operations include bringing the location back to approximate original contour, seeding,
and establishing erosion control measures. The following photographs show a typical
series of reclamation procedures:
