fsnuary 1995 Kerr Cosl Company " ]994 Annual Hydrology Report • 21
6.0 MINE AREA SURFACE WATER
There was little runoff generated by either snowmelt or rainfall during the 1994 Water Year.
1 The discharge generated from snowmelt occurred at Site 304 (Pond D), Site 305 (Pond E), and
J Site 321 (Pond F) during late March and in[o April. TSS and iron values continue to exceed
permit limits at various times, however, Kerr Coal Company continues to maintain that the
1 problem is a direct response to runoff and soil gradation existing in the general area of the mine.
The specific Stormwater Exemption Requests are included in Exhibit F, 1994 Mine Area Surface
Water Quality Analysis.
] The discharge from Site 301 (Pond A) and Site 302 (Pond B) were a dirett result of pumping
water from [he 720 Pit during final pit filling activities. The applicable WET testing results and
water quality analyses with correspondence are included in Exhibit G, CDPS Permit No: CO-
0043567 Correspondence.
Table 8, 1994 Surface Water Statistics -Sediment Ponds, presents a summary of the data. The
1 field data sheets are contained in Exhibit A, 1994 Field Data and the results of the laboratory
1 testing are presented in Exhibit F, 1994 Mine Area Surface Water Quality Analyses.
Surface Water Monitoring Stations 300, 306, and 327 experienced flow from spring runoff as
represented on Table 9, 1994 Surface Water Statistics -Selected Surface Stations. Station 314 did
not exhibit any flow during the year. The surface water sites were sampled on a weekly basis
from March through June and monthly thereafter. The field data collected are presented in
Exhibit A, 1994 Field Data and the results of the laboratory azea presented in Exhibit F, 1994
Mine Area Surface Water Quality Analyses.
Seasonal variations in flow and water chemistry for stations 300, 306 and 327 are illustrated in
graphs of flow, pH, TSS and TDS vs EC and are presented in Exhibit H, 1994 Mine Area
Surface Water Hydrographs. Please note on the graphs, that flow data points shown as zero
represent either no flow or a trace of flow. For quality parameters, zero indicated that the value
was below laboratory detection limits. Please refer to the tables for actual values.
losiwn ars~ TmaMatrix Inr. ' P.O.
