<br />• Appendix No. V states that groundwater samples will be analyzed for <br />dissolved parameters except as noted. However, on several of the <br />groundwater monitoring data pages certain analytes aze marked as `Dissolved' <br />which is contradictory to what is stated in the Appendices. <br />3. It was noted that water quality in Naturita Creek is generally poor. Sulfate is elevated above <br />the surface water quality standard (Basic Standards and Methodologies for Surface Water) <br />for all sample collection dates including baseline at both the upper and lower sample locations. <br />Dissolved iron and manganese were also elevated above the respective surface water <br />standards for several sample dates for both upper and lower Naturita Creek. <br />4. Samples collected from Lower Broad Creek in January of 1998 showed elevated levels <br />(above baseline) for conductivity, total dissolved solids, and iron. No other significant trends <br />in water quality were noted for any of the other surface water sample locations. <br />5. Lower Broad Creek has two surface water data tables presented. Data is presented for the <br />5/09/91 sample on both tables. The pH and conductivity data aze not consistent between each <br />table. <br />6. With the exception of Spring SP-6, all springs within the permit appear to have dried up prior <br />to the commencement of mining. Spring SP-6 dried up and is reported as damp at azound the <br />time mining began in the second quarter of 1992. There does not appear to be any significant <br />impacts to springs within the permit area as a result of mining operations. <br />7. Alluvial wells AW-6 and AW-7 show an overall increase in dissolved iron, dissolved <br />manganese, and total dissolved solids since baseline data were collected. Sulfate and <br />dissolved manganese exceeded the secondary drinking water standards (Basic Standards for <br />Groundwater) in well AW-6 for all sample collection dates. Dissolved iron exceeded the <br />secondary drinking water standard on two occasions in well AW-6. Sulfate and dissolved <br />manganese also exceeded the secondary drinking water standards in well AW-7 for all sample <br />collection dates. Dissolved iron exceeded the secondary drinking water standard in well AW- <br />7 on 10/1/95. <br />8. Bedrock well BW-1 had exceedances of the secondary drinking water standazds for sulfate <br />and dissolved manganese for all sample collection dates. Dissolved iron exceeded the <br />secondary drinking water standard on three occasions. Sulfate exceeded the secondary <br />drinking water standard in well BW-3 for all sample collection dates. Exceedances of the <br />secondary drinking water standards in the alluvial and bedrock wells for the constituents <br />noted does not present a significant concern because there are no current uses of groundwater <br />within or adjacent to the permit area. <br />
