C~ ^i e:'L~f3l Cc5'J 7!°_Ec <br />The Lake County Pit was closed for sand and gravel production in 1979. <br />During that year the slopes were contoured and the area was dressed up. <br />A portion of the sloped area had deactivated sludge applied to it as a <br />test program recommended by Wright-McLaughlin Engineers from Denver. <br />The sludge came from the Leadville Sanitation District. <br />It is anticipated that this spring (1981) the exposed slopes will be <br />mulched and seeded. <br />The pit will continue to be utilized by Lake County for their asphalt <br />plant and aggregate will be stock piled on the site. <br />The sediment pond mentioned in your inspection report was the preferred <br />location at the time the plant was installed. It is recognized that if <br />runoff does affect the pond, measures will be taken to correct the situ- <br />ation. <br />The Half F1oon Pit is presently utilized to produce materials for Lake <br />County primarily fer road surfacing and asphalt production. <br />At present five acres are involved in sand and gravel production. The <br />surrounding disturbed area has already been contoured and seeded and <br />appears to be growing quite well. <br />For the year 1981, it is anticipated that within the five acres approx- <br />imately 85,000 to 100,000 tons of material will be removed. <br />There will not. be any revegetating during 1981. <br />JF <br />If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact this <br />this office (303-486-1796). <br />Sincerely, <br />~~~~~~ <br />Donald J.
