2006 Annual Reclamation Report
Southfield Mine
May 14, 2007
Page S
Weed Control Activities
One small plot of Knappweed was discovered adjacent to and at the west edge of the parking lot
on the Vento property. The agent with the Fremont County Weed control Agency sprayed the
Knappweed with the certified herbicide during 2005 and again in the 2006 season.
EFCI will continue to inspect these areas and will implement necessary weed control measures
consistent with approved management plans.
Dr. Corley as land owner of the Corley property, sprayed Tamarisk shrubs along the mine
entrance road and adjacent to the Magpie Diversion ditch. Given that the spraying was executed
by the land owner, EFCI does not have information of the chemicals used by the land owner.
Conclusions
The winter season prior to the current reporting period (2006) supplied limited snowfall and the
following spring and early summer was relatively dry. During mid July however, abundant
monsoon rains and high humidity commenced and warm season vegetation sprang to life and
flurished throughout the remainder of the growing season.
It should be noted that as stated in the Southfield Mine 2006 Revegetation Monitoring Report by
Il-4E, it documents that the existing Permit Document's Revegetation Success Standards with
respect to woody plant density for the Portal Area and the warm season species diversity
standard are impossible to achieve due to inconsistency with the existing undisturbed vegetation
found adjacent to these reclaimed areas. Consequently, IME recommends that EFCI submits a
Minor Revision Request to modify the Permit's existing revegetation success standards.
