Slow-Release Nitrogen
For Dry Application
Nonburning-Nonleaching
Odorless-Pathogenfree
Blue Chip is the granular form of Nitroform® ureaform. Pro-
duced by combining urea and formaldehyde under controlled
manufacturing conditions, its slow-release characteristics are
predictable and dependable. Released by soil microorganisms, the
nitrogen is available during plant growth cycles when organisms
are also most active.
Blue Chip is organic nitrogen only. Nitrogen equivalents are
given below. Supplements of phosphorous, potash, and other
nutrients should be applied as soil tests antl local conditions
indicate. Maintain the soil pH needed for the grass or other plant
being grown.
Nitrogen Equivalents:
1 Ib of Nitroform = 0.38 Ib of nitrogen
2.61bs of Nitroform = 1 Ib of nitrogen
DIRECTIONS FOR USE
Annual nitrogen rate will vary from 2 to 10 pounds (5 to 25
pounds Blue Chip) based on the requirements of different grasses
and geographical areas. Check your turf supplier or the recom-
mendationsfrom your State Extension Service.
TURF AREAS: For normal maintenance on fairways, airfields,
athletic fields, cemeteries, parks, lawns, and similar turf areas, ap-
ply annually 10 to 15 pounds of Blue Chip per 1,000 square feet, or
400 to 600 pounds per acre. Table I gives recommendations for
providing optimum maintenance of turfgrass and lawns.
Split applications are recommendetl, with the heaviest applica•
lion at the time of the most important growth cycle. For cool•
season grasses (bluegrass, fescue, and bent), apply'/, in the fall
and '/, in the spring. For warm-season grasses (bermutla, zoysia,
centipede, and 5t. Augustine), apply al, in the spring and 'Ip in the
fall. For low-maintenance applications that use less than the
10-pound recommended rate, Blue Chip can be applied in a single
application.
For seedbed application, use the recommended annual rate of
Blue Chip, working it into the top 1 to 2 inches of soil.
GREENS AND TEES: For close-knit turf, apply Blue Chip immedi-
ately after aerifying greens and tees, then sweep into holes.
Mower pickup of this granular fertilizer i5 usually very minimal. If
this is a concern, remove mower basket for 1 or 2 cuttings follow-
ing application. Powder BIUeTM, the powder form of Nitroform, can
be sprayed on greens and tees to give more immediate contact
with the soil surface.
FOR SEEDBED APPLICATION: Use 10 pounds of Blue Chip per
1,000 square feet lightly raked into the surface 1 inch of soil.
SOD PRODUCTION: In the seedbed, apply 10 pounds of Blue Chip
per 1,q(10 square feet, or 400 pounds per acre, and work into the
top 1 inch of soil. In established sod, apply 10 pounds per 1,000
square feat, or 400 pounds per acre, in spring or fall, depending on
time remaining till harvest.
Soil Surtaes-Suggested rate is 'l. pound of Blue Chip for each
inch of plant diameter. For container-ggrown plants, use'/, tea•
spoon per 4-inch pot; 1 teaspoon per Ginch pot. Number of ap-
plications would depend on annual N requirements.
Soil Mix-Mix 2 to 3 ounces of Blue Chip per bushel, or 2 to 4
pounds per cubic yard. For bedding plants, use 2 to 3 pounds per
100 square feet, mixed in top 2 to 3 inches of soil.
