~~
~~
Discharge point 003 was utilized for discharging water pumped out of the old Cameo
Mine and has not been used since 1979. There is no new information for this site this
Year.
Discharge point 004 continued to be used all Year to discharge from the Roadside
North Portal. Flow information is given in the Mine Water section of this report. A
listing of weekly monitoring results is given on data pages SF-16 and 17 and the result
of the annual full suite analysis is presented on data page SPA. Table S97-4 is a
statistical summary of water quality data collected since 1979. Diagram S97-3 is a
' graph relating TDS to time at outfall 004. The wide variation in TDS is a function of the
source of the water at the time of discharge. The primary sources are the portal ramp
underdrain represented by location 1 for the Roadside North Portal in the Mine Water
' s?ctinn, active area mine inflows and sealed area inflows at location R
' There were no non-compliant discharge events during the Year at outfali 004. This
location has previously been troublesome because of high suspended solids. The
mine water treatment pond has apparently eliminated this problem. The pond was
constructed during the fourth quarter of 1997.
' The Whole EfFluent Toxicity (WET) tests were continued this Year. This testing was
added to the CDPS permit requirements because of the classification of the receiving
' waters. The acute test involves subjecting fathead minnows to various dilutions of
effluent in receiving water for 4 days and subjecting Ceriodaphnia dubia to various
dilutions for 2 days. The tests look primarily at mortality during the test period. Data
' pages SL-3 and SM-3 list mortality for this Year. Discharges from outfall 001 and 002
are combined proportional to the total discharge for the previous month to form one
' sample. The survival rates for all samples taken this Year complied with the discharge
permit requirements.
' ~HR 98 Page 4 5-1-98
