percent, shrubs contributing at least 5 percent, and forbs contributing at least 10 percent of the
total vegetative cover on the reclaimed sites. No single grass species is to contribute more than
50 percent of the grass cover.
Statistical Analysis of Data. As required by the Division's existing regulations and Guidelines,
it is necessary to achieve sample adequacy for all reclamation monitoring corresponding to the
Phase III bond release sampling efforts. Therefore, all of the data collected in this evaluation
were analyzed for sample adequacy in order to determine whether the Division's requirements
had been satisfied.
Results
Field Samaling Dates. All of the data utilized in this evaluation were collected between June
17- 23 and September 4-6, 2004. At the time of the field sampling, most of the plants were
actively growing and it is believed that the sampling was performed close to the period of
optimum plant growth, when the plant cover and production was near its peak. A total of 40 plant
species were identified in the 30 cover transects and 250 shrub density transects sampled in this
evaluation. A list of all of the plant species encountered in the field sampling efforts in this
evaluation is presented in Table 1, Raton Creek Mine Plant Species List.
Sample Adeauac~ A statistical analysis of the data collected to characterize the plant cover,
production, and shrub density is presented in Table 2, Raton Creek Mine -Sample Adequacy
Calculations. This comparison documents that a sufficient number of samples were collected to
describe the parameters of "allowable" plant cover, production and shrub density at the 90
percent confidence interval. '
Transect Locations. All of the cover, production and shrub density transects sampled in this
evaluation are shown on the enclosed map. The locations 30 cover, 68 production and 250 shrub
density transects sampled aze shown on Map 1, Raton Creek Mine - 2004 Vegetation Transect
Location Map.
BATON CREEK MINE RECLAMATION
Plant Cover. The results obtained from the sampling of the 30 plant cover transects on this site
are presented in Table 3, Raton Creek Mine Reclamation - 2004 Plant Cover. Total plant cover
on this site averaged 55.30 percent (Table 3, Raton Creek Mine Reclamation - 2004 Plant
Cover).
The revegetation success standazd for this site is 25 % "allowable cover." Examination of Table
3, Raton Creek Mine Reclamation - 2004 Plant Cover, reveals that the total "allowable cover"
on this site averaged 30.50 percent. Since the actual "allowable cover" value (30.50 %) for this
reclaimed site exceeds the revegetation success standadd for this site (25 %), it can be concluded
that the "allowable cover" in this reclamation block satisfies the revegetation success standard.
