MW-11 to 2.3 mg/kg for sample MW-]0. The presence of TEPH vas not indicated above
tlrc laboratory dctcction limit of 1.0 mg/L in the remaining groundwater samples analyzed.
Analytical results for the groundwater samples indicate the presence of low concentrations
of benzene, toluene, ethylbenzene, and xylene in samples SH-1 and MW-1 ]. BTEX
constituents were not indicated at concentrations above the laboratory detection limit in the
remaining groundwater samples analyzed. A copy of the laboratory analytical report for the
seven groundwater samples is attached as Appendix C. Analytical results for the
groundwater samples arc summarized below in Table 3.
TABLE 3
SUMMARY OF GROUNDWATER SAIVIPLE ANALYTICAL RESULTS
Sample TEPH Benzene Toluene Ethylbenzene Xylene
SH-1 2.0 0.0020 0.0025 0.004 0.032
MW-10 2.3 0.0026 0.0067 0.0097 0.056
MW-1l 2.0 <0.005 U <0.005 U <0.005 U <0.005 U
M W-12 < 1.0 U < 0.005 U < 0.005 U < 0.005 U < 0.005 U
M W-13 < 1.0 U < 0.005 U < 0.005 U < 0.005 U < 0.005 U
MW-14 < l.0 U <0.00~ U <0.005 U <0.005 U <0.005 U
MW-15 <1.0U <O.OO~U <O.OO~U <O.OO~U <O.OOSU
State MCL Nonc 0.005 1.0 0.680 ]0
Notes: Rcponcd values in mg/L
U = analytc undctcc[cd
Drinking Wa[cr Maeimum Contaminant Level (tv1CL)
4.0 REGULATORYREPORTINGREQUIREttilENTS
As discussed above in Section 2.0, apparent diesel product was observed underneath the
tank firm liner and above the ground surface. Evidence of product release was also
observed on the concrete surfaces adjacent to the east of the tank farm. Although the
release visually appears to be greater than 2~ gallons, an estimated quantity of oil that may
have been released has not been determined. This determination will require additional
infornration (e.g., tank operating data), if available.
A shallow ground water table exists underneath the tank farm. ERM is currently reviewing
ground water quality data tom monitoring wells installed in the vicinity of the tank farm to
determine if ground water has been impacted to date. Based on the spill reporting
requirements described herein and the preliminary results of the subsurface investigation,
Southwestern Portland Cement Company may be required to notify the following agencies
(verbally and in writing) of the release(s).
edera!
Federal reporting obligations are set forth in Discharge of Oil Regulations (40 CFR 110.6
and 110.10) and require that spills into or upon the "navigable" waters of the U.S. or
ERM-ROCt:Y AtOIMI'NN, INC.
P:\I000\S1YPC1961019V2EPORT.DOC Printed on Recycled Paper
7
