Pikeview Quarry RECEIVED
2003 Annual Report ,Il1N 0 9 2003
Castle Concrete Company
M-1977-211 May 27 p~y~sion ~f Minerals and Ge°I°gy
Overview of Permit Year: During the past year we made some adjustments to our
mining and reclamation plan. Our "Layback Plan" did not take into account the existing
mining and reclamation plan. Please see attached documents for details.
Annual Report Map: The annual report map shows the areas of tree planting,
topsoiling, weed inspecting, and topsoil stockpiling.
Affected Lands: The amount of affected land has remained the same. After the
Layback Plan was approved stripping and material moving began. The expansion of the
Layback ledge has stopped because of conflicts with our mining plan.
Revegetation: Revegetation has been doing well this year. The grasses have taken well
on the benches. The CMRF (Colorado Mountain Reclamation Foundation) planted ..,
300 trees on the main frontal visual berm behind the office (see map). I plan on seeding
the areas where there is exposed dirt, mainly the berm along the haul road. Hopefully I
will be able to do this in the fall. Across the entire site Grey Rabbitbrush is very well
established. Although this isn't the most desirable vegetation it does significantly cut
down on erosion.
Weeds: Mark Heifner and I began a weed inspection of the site. In one day we were
only able to cover 25% of the site. Although weeds were spotted, they weren't large
infestations as is the case at Queens Quarry. Toadflax, Thistle, Flickweed, Mullion and
Kochia were all found in small spots. Mark Heifner and myself plan on finishing the
weed inspection in June. BJ Fuller plans on spraying for weeds sometime in June.
Expected Activity: Please refer to Integration of Layback and EnhanceAmendment~lan.r.
Bonding: This operation is covered by a corporate bond.
Castle Concrete 2003 Annual Report M-77-211 Pikeview Quarry Page 1 of 1
