There are between 30 and 40 acres of old quarries that were started beginning in
1890 by my grandfather. There is no need for reclamation as the quarries are
left open as no new ground is disturbed. The areas have new tree growth from
adjoining pine trees. The rubble piles are-left in piles and lichen will cover
the exposed rock in about 50 years and then they will be harvested. During
rainy periods water will collect in some old quarries for game and employees to use.
