- ANNUAL REPORT
Permit No: M-1985-211
Operation Name: Berthoud Pink Quarry
Map Summary: There have been no changes to the map on file with the Division of Minerals and IG-eology.
Current Disturbances: There have been no significant changes to the current disturbances reflect~a on the maps on file
with the Division of Minerals and Geology.
New Disturbances for the Upcoming Year: We do not anticipate significantly varying our curr y disturbed areas
beyond what we have previously mapped for the Division of Minerals and Geology. As ofthe date of this report, there
are no plans to open-up any new quarrying areas on the lands curtained under this pemrit.
RaLmation Accomplished To Date and During the Preceding Year:
To Date: All reclamation "to date" has bear reported to, and is in the files of, the Division of Minerals and
Geology. I
During the Preceding Year: The quames in Berthoud were being mined on an ime , om-going basis and
we did not actively reclaim the areas last year. To do so would have been a waste of valuable rec ion resources and
time.
Many of the areas in the Berthoud quarries have, over the years, sporrtarreously reclaimed emselves without any
active reclamation on our part. As Mother Nature takes its course and trees and native vegetation r seals itself irrto
disturbed areas, the trees, plants and grasses are encouraged to grow and we try not to disturb an ~ g we don't have to.
Reclamation Planned During the Coming Yesr: At this time, no reclamation is anticipated to oc ur for these quarries
in the coming year. Limited mining is conducted each year, which results in minimal disturbance t the area. Any
reclamation that is undertaken in the nerd year will most likely be for ground stabilization within an among the quarries
rather than final reclamation.
)n accordance with our permit, reclamatiar will occur in stages as the quarries are depleted It is difficuh,
however, to determine a timetable for the actual depletion of an area or part of an area in our quarri s.
As preparation for future reclamation, we regularly participate in the Conservation Tree PI g Program
sponsored by the Colorado State Forest Service in conjunction with the Big Thompson Soil Conse 'on District. With
this program we are able to purchase seedlings and grow them for firture replanting in our quarries ccordimg to the plans
the forest service has developed for conservation purposes hrcluding erosion control and reforestati
Operations Status: We operate the Berthoud quarries on an intermittent basis. Mining in these qu rries occurs less than
180 days per year when the weather is fair and the area can be typically found without snow, frost, ,much
precipitation, erdremely low temperatures or high winds. Therefore, we have no concrete beginning r cessation dates to
report.
Sufficiency of Financial Warranty: Our reclamation bond is guaranteed by an irrevocable letter o credit from the
Berthoud National Bank, Berthoud, Colorado, and on file with the Division of Minerals and Gaol ,acknowledging the
liability at $5,000.00. This amount, however, will be increased by $7,000.00 as required by the D G to bring the total
bond to $12,000.00 as of April 23, 2000, according to the findings ofthe DMG in an inspection acted on February 2,
2000.
