December 23, 1999
Piceance Site
PuPe 10
During the baseline period, groundwater levels will be measured monthly for all
monitoring well completions. This will include wells located in and out of the 0-5 year mining
panel.
During the first 5 years of commercial operations, water levels will be measured monthly
for all monitoring wells completed in zones above the Dissolution Surface (including in-panel and
out-of--panel wells), and weekly for monitoring wells completed at the Dissolution Surface. The
weekly water-level measurements for Dissolution Surface monitoring wells will be performed
using suitable automated data recording equipment. The automated equipment will not be
installed until the beginning of commercial operations.
Parachute Site
Once the alluvial monitoring well is constructed at the Parachute Site, water level will be
measured on a monthly basis. Water-level monitoring will be conducted in accordance with the
procedures detailed in Appendix B.
• Domestic Welfs
Water levels will be measured in the available domestic wells contained in this Water
Monitoring Plan on a monthly basis, and will be performed in accordance with the procedures
detailed in Appendix B.
2.2.2 Groundwater Quality Monitoring
Groundwater quality will be monitored at the Piceance Site, the Parachute Site, and in
domestic water wells. This section includes details regarding water-quality parameters to be
measured in water samples, groundwater quality monitoring schedules, and groundwater
monitoring procedures.
Groundtirater Quality Parameters
The monitoring schedule allows for water quality samples to be analyzed for either the
standard list of parameters contained in WQI (Table 2) or the comprehensive list of parameters
contained in WQ2 (Table 3). [n general, water quality samples will be analyzed for the WQ2
parameters on a less frequent basis that the WQ1 parameters. The two lists of parameters were
developed in consultation with the BLM, EPA, CDMG, USGS, Rio Blanco County, and American
• Soda. These parameters are generally in accordance with applicable water-quality parameters
listed in the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), Water Quality
Agapito Associates, [nc.
