Cattany
Division Director
Natural Resource Trustee
I have reviewed RAG-Empire Corporation's 2003 Annual Reclamation Report. RAG-EC reported that no
reclamation activities occurred during 2003. No grading, topsoil replacement or seeding occurred during
2003.
Spraying for weed control was reported for knapweed, houndstongue and thistle. Spraying was conducted
between June 3 to June 20, 2003. RAG-EC provided a map showing herbicide application locations in the
Annual Reclamation report. The map indicated that Roundup was used around buildings in specified
location, but the Annual Report and map do not indicate what herbicide was applied over the majority of
the area. Please provide information regarding what chemical was used for the rest of the spray area, blue
versus pink on the weed control map. When indicating which weeds RAG-EC is providing weed control
for, please indicate the species. RAG-EC provided general names; knapweed, thistle and houndstongue.
Based on the Annual Report, the Division can not tell if the knapweed is Russian knapweed, Diffuse
knapweed, or Spotted knapweed. Likewise, we cannot tell if the thistle being controlled is Canada thistle
or one of the biennial thistle species. Herbicide formulations are specific for species. In the Annual
Reclamation Report please include the weed species being controlled.
Thank you for the timely submittal of the Annual Reclamation Report. This report meets the requirement
of Rule 2.04.13
Sincerely,
~ ~-
J tH.Bi s
nvironment I Prot n S cialist
C:/jhb/C81044/ARRs/2003 Review.doc
Attachment: 2003 Summary
Office of
Mined Land Reclamation
Office of
Active and Inactive Mines
Colorado
Geological Survey
