Shrestha, P.E.
Assistant Manager of Engineering
U
Dear Sirs:
~RECEIVE~ May 13, 1996
°1t1~' l~_ ~ 199E
Divisw~Granel JUf1Ct 046bIC~'I
Western Fuels-Utah (WFU) holds seven leases irom BLM which have been combined to form an LMU
at the Deserado Mine near Rangely. The seven leases are C-023703, C-0126669, C-8424, C-8425,
D-047201, C-44693 and COC51551. A modified Resource Recovery and Protedion Plan (RZPZ) for
the LMU was submitted to BLM in August, 1991.
WFU has found it necessary to revise Deserado Mine's D-Seam mine plan due to the underground
mine fire and eventual sealing of the worsting district. The LW-9 panel was only partially mined when
the mine caught on fire on January 31, 1996. The whole district was eventually sealed on February
14, 1996 because the fire could not be controlled. Thus, the remaining LW-9 panel and the other
panels that were behind the seals and were planned for mining have been abandoned. Anew D-
Seam mine plan with a revised mining sequence was prepared.
A copy of the revised D-Seam mine plan (Plate 7) is endosed. Also endosed are revised Table 4-3
(Page 27) of the RZPZ which shows estimated production rate for the remaining recoverable reserves,
and Table 4-6 (Page 35) of the RZPZ which gives the remaining recoverable raw and dean coal
reserves.
It is requested that the revised documents be approved and made a part of the existing RZPZ.
