• Mulching Techniques
Immediately after the areas have been topsoiled and seeded, straw
mulch will be spread by hand and/or with a straw blower at a
minimum rate of 2,000 lbs. per acre. Mulch will be crimped or
covered with a polypropylene erosion control netting. The best
material for use as mulch will be a native grass hay which is free
of weeds. This mulch will not be moldy or rotten. TCC will avoid
using cereal grain mulches unless nothing else is available.
Irrigation
Irrigation is planned for the regraded and revegetated areas to
help establish and maintain plant growth consistent with the
postmining land use. During the first few growing seasons, a
sprinkler system or a gated pipe system with contour creases may
have to be utilized to control erosion. After the vegetation is
well established, flood irrigation techniques will be employed.
Pest and Disease Control
• Noxious plants will be controlled using the following approved
methods. Specifically, White Top weed will be controlled in the
existing topsoil stockpiles area according to the following plan:
> Banvel 24-0 Herbicide will be sprayed annually during the
growing season where White Top appears.
> The herbicide will be applied with a hand held or
backpack pump sprayer.
> TCC will maintain records of herbicide use on the
property for inspection by Division personnel. The
records will document:
- Date of herbicide application
- Name and concentration of herbicide used
- Method of application
- Area sprayed
- Name of person that performed the spraying
• 2.05-14R Rev. 12-27-93
