Azurite, Inc. I
10001 CR 12 P.O. Box 338
Cotopaxi, Colorado 81223
719-942-4178
August 15, 2002
Mr. James Dillie, Environmental Specialist /
Colorado Division of Minerals and Geology
1313 Sherman Street Rm 215
Denver, CO 80203
W /
RECEIVED
AUG 19 2002 ~~
Division of Minerals and CeologY

RE: G-P GYPSUM PERMIT NUMBER 77-247 CLOSURE DATE EXTENSION REQUEST
Dear Mr. Dillie, /
Please be advised that G-P Gypsum Corporation requests an extension to its scheduled closure date
for its Coaldale Gypsum mine, permit # 77-247, located near Coaldale, Colorado in western Fremont
County. G-P Gypsum has performed all closure tasks as scheduled in the five yeaz closure plan
regazding highwall removal and stabilization, re-grading operations, equipment removal, road
removal, and revegetation work. However, the establishment ofvegetation on the steep, dry slopes
exposed during the past five yeazs of final grading, equipment and road removal will take additional
seasons of continued vegetative maintenance to attain a self sustaining and diverse cover of native
vegetation on those portions of the site where appropriate. As you know, this past yeaz is one of the
driest on record and Coaldale is no exception for its nearly zero moisture conditions. Vegetative
development will be minimal with most labor expended in just keeping our existing seedlings alive.
Additional time will be needed to bring the vegetative aspects at the site to a level of minimum
standard regarding percent ground cover, diversity, and sustainability.
I look forwazd to your August visit regarding this request.
Very Truly Yours,
S~o
Kenneth S.
