Stormweler Mvnveemenl Plvn 01/04/98
• A series of permanent berms will be constructed along the southern permit boundary to
reduce noise and impair visual examination of the project. These berms will be
constructed from rock and sand material not sold from the project. As the permanent
berms are completed, topsoil will be removed from the temporary topsoil stockpile and
placed in a 8-10" layer and be seeded. A table of anticipated topsoil volumes for each area
is included for review. The difference between the temporary topsoil stockpile and that
used for the permanent berms will be used to reclaim each future mine area. After gravel
area IA is mined, the top soil from Phase II will be used to reclaim gravel area IA and the
remaining permanent berms. Likewise, topsoil from Phase III will be used to reclaim
gravel area II when the latter azea is completely mined and Phase III area is started.
Direct haul of topsoil to final placement will be a priority to maintain the soil's integrity
and minimize haulage.
The temporary topsoil stockpile will vary in height and width so as to blend the stockpile
into the surrounding topography. Topsoil stockpiles will be graded to no more than 2.0:1
to 2.5:1 slopes prior to temporary seed mixture planting to promote wind and water
resistance. The topsoil stockpile is oriented nearly perpendicular to the prevailing wind
(north-northeast) to decrease wind and water erosion potential. When portions of the
stockpile are removed for soil redistribution, removal will take place on the east or west
ends to limit disturbance. The topsoil stockpile will be marked with a sign to insure that
the stockpile is not inadvertently contaminated with other materials.
PERMANENT BERMS TOPSOIL USE
Estimated
Berm CuYd Topwil Cover Acres
CuYd
Temporary Top Soil Herm 113,615 N/A
4.39
Permanent Berms
Southern Railroad Loop
33,022 2,611 2.05
Western Wye
19,333 1,528 1.20
Eastern Wye
8,533 843 0.66
West of Western Wye
69,102 5,009 1.99
SE Permit Corner
38,667 3,057 2.40
Overburden Stormwater Berm
16.800 2 698 2.02 acres in disturbed road/RR/Pond area
Totals 185,458 excludes storm water berms
15,746 8.29
•
Permanent Berms, Previously Mlned Land
Pape 17
