Starmwaler Manaeement Plan 1228/97
3.3 Granite Quarry
• The granite quarry is located on the north side of Tallahassee Creek. A haul road wilt be
constructed from the gravel bar plant area to the granite quarry. The Tallahassee Creek
crossing will be steel I beams on 2 reinforced concrete piers at either end. Adequately
sized rip rap will be placed on both sides and both ends of the crossing. A total of 28.3
acres will be disturbed initially with plans for an additional 36 acres. 10.2 acres is included
in the initia128.3 acres for an eventual plant site when developed.
Initial activities at the granite quarry will include topsoil salvage and placement onto the
storm water berm built at the quarry or onto the temporary topsoil stockpile on the gravel
bar. Some topsoil is available for salvage from the nearly level processing area while little
is available from the quarry site.
The quarry has about a 300 acre watershed. The topographical map shows that there is 1
intermittent stream west of the quarry running south around the quarry diverting a fair
amount of the water from the upper elevations away from the quarry area. A storm water
diversion berm will be constructed between the quazry plant and the western intermittent
stream to insure to movement of water aoound the quarry and plant areas. Within the
quarry and plant azea, water will drain south into the stormwater retention pond designed
to hold a 10 year storm with a discharge outlet designed to handle a 25 year storm. All
design work has been performed by Verkaik Associates Engineers. This discharge outlet
• is permit outfall #3.
Process W ater Disposal
The operation will involve dust suppression with water. The previous estimates noted for
water use on the gravel baz would eventually have 75% of the water use at the gravel bar
area moved to the granite plant area.

Page 10
