S[ormweter Manaeemenl Plan 1728/97
3.1 Gravel Bar Aggregate Pit
• The gravel bar aggregate pits are located south of Tallahassee Creek and north of the
Arkansas River. Initial mining activities will disturb about 16.8 acres for mining, 18.1
acres for a plant area, 8 acres for permanent visual impairment berms and several acres for
roads, buffers and a service area. Subsequent mining will disturb an additional 37 acres in
future years.
Following removal and stockpiling of available topsoil material, the gravel will be mined
by a combination of tracked and rubber-tired heavy construction equipment including
scrapers, dozers, end-loaders and haul trucks. Mined material will be transported to the
plant where it will be crushed and/or screened into marketable products. A separate
SWMP section has been prepared for the plant area which includes material stockpiles.
Reclamation activities at the gravel bar aggregate pits are discussed in the project's
reclamation plan.
A buffer will remain at the north end of the gravel bar areas to be mined. There will be no
discharge from the pits. Temporary stabilization practices include those below.
