<br />` In addition to the variance, WECC is requesting a <br />'~ ~ relocation of o ne of the two accesses to WECC <br /> property. The a ccess must be relocated due to the <br /> construction of a permanent refuse pile. The <br /> necessary plans and drawings for the proposed road - <br /> relocation have been include d for your review. <br />Once the refuse pile has reached the size shown on <br />drawing no. LWP-005 the exlsting road cannot be <br />used to access Sylvester Gulch and it must be <br />relocated (also on drawing no. LWP-005). There 1s <br />no other access to Sylvester Gulch that can be <br />used yearround. <br />The access to Sylvester Gulch is critical because <br />•t` - the main mine fan for .the Mt. Gunnison No. 1 Mine <br />is located in Sylvester Gulch. The fan must be <br />. inspected on a daily basis and it is critical in .: . <br />._;_'•. an emergency to be able to' readily access the fan <br />site to insure the safety of our underground ~., <br />?~` personnel. The volume of traffic at~this access <br />will be low, but the importance of this road is <br />_ high. <br />Please review the aforementioned request for <br />r written permission for the variance and the <br />application to relocate .the access. Should you <br />. have questions or require further information, <br />please call me. If you feel that it would be <br />helpful I can meet with you to go over the plans. <br />A public hearing will be held in the near future <br />to obtain public comment on the variance to <br />.conduct mining operations, within 100 feet of a <br />- public highway right of 'way. If the Colorado <br />Department of Highways would like to participate <br />in the public hearing. they will be welcome to do <br />so.
