The known extent of coal mined is shown. There has been no
• evidence of subsidence at these sites. No surface coal mining has
occurred at this site. Small early mines were abandoned without
reclamation and have largely returned to a natural, vegetated
state.
•
s
s
I
The private land surrounding the mine-site, in Pitkin County, as of
1993, is zoned RS-30, which restricts residential development to
one residential dwelling unit per 30-acre parcel. All federal
lands are not zoned.
3.2.2 LOADOUT
The loadout facility is located on the Diamond S and the Crystal
River Ranch properties, which were owner-operated enterprises until
the early 1970's when they were acquired by the current owners,
both subsidiaries of the Anschutz Corporation. The ranches share
some common boundaries and encompass land on both sides of the
Roaring Fork River, about 2 miles downstream of the town of
Carbondale. Drawing Number D-2-3 depicts current adjacent
landowners.
Land use types which are affected by the coal loadout facility are
irrigated and hay meadow, irrigated pasture, non-productive pinyon-
juniper slope, and riparian land. The latter two types are
affected only insofar as the proposed conveyor traverses them, and
by construction of the haul road to the truck dump site. No
wetlands or other wildlife habitat are significantly disturbed.
3-7 Rev. 6-10-93
