• Water quality data has been collected sporadically in the Crystal
River Basin. The available literature indicates one water quality
sample taken at the mouth of Thompson Creek and several samples from a
variety of locations on the Crystal River. The water quality of
Crystal River is good as indicated by the parameters; pH near 7; orga-
nic loading, BOD, less than 5 mg/1; nutrients, low nitrogen and
moderate amounts of phosphorous; dissolved solids, TDS, less than 500
milligrams per liter.
3.4.2.2 Loadout
The North Thompson Creek coal Loadout facility is located on a bluff
adjacent to the Roaring Fork River approximately 1 mile downstream
from Carbondale. The average annual precipitation for the entire
Roaring Fork drainage basin is approximately 27 inches. The annual
precipitation at the Loadout facility is approximately 18 inches. The
surface area of the Loadout facility represents less than 0.01 percent
• of the 1,400 square mile drainage area of the Roaring Fork River as it
passes the facility.
A substantial amount of
Roaring Fork River.
