Section 816.1161a) Continued
Revegetation Success -Kerr Mine Area
Pre-law disturbance areas (areas seeded prior to August 3, 1977) will only be subject
to a vegetative cover standard, with cover sufficient to control erosion.
Otherwise revegetation success will be measured through the use of reference area
data combined with baseline data for the Salt Flat vegetation type, where
appropriate, for the Kerr Mine Area. As shown on Map 18, Kerr Mine Vegetation, for
each vegetation type which will be disturbed by mining, except for the Salt Flat type,
a reference area has been established within the permit boundaries. The relationship
of the reference areas to their corresponding vegetation types was established by
baseline sampling and statistical analysis, as more fully discussed in Section 779.19.
In each case, the analysis determined that reference areas were representative and
could be used as a standard for the corresponding vegetation types. A summary of
analysis results is compiled as Table 31, Summary of Statistical Analysis. Other than
use of the boundaries for individual vegetation types to determine disturbance
• acreages as a basis for calculation of weighting factors and use of the Salt Flat
vegetation data, where applicable, baseline vegetation data will not be used to
evaluate revegetation success.
Revegetation will be deemed successful relative to the parameters of cover and
production when mean sample values for total cover and herbaceous production on
the revegetated sites is equal to or greater than the calculated 90 percent confidence
interval for the weighted average cover and production. Weighted average values
will be based on sampling data for the relevant reference areas and/or Salt Flat
baseline data. Statistical analysis based on current DMG guidelines will be utilized as
the basis for evaluation of cover and production values. It should be noted, that
cover and production measurements will focus on total cover and herbaceous
production as explained in Section 780.18.
TR-10 816-156 Revised August 1999
