In October 1998, Powderhorn Coal Company applied to extend an exploration <br />f. <br />mine in the Cameo "C" Seam in the Roadside North Mine. The Cameo "C" Seam <br />exploration area was driven north from the active section in 2nd West. Ramps were <br />driven from crosscuts 61 through 65 to the Cameo "C" Seam. Seven entries were <br />extended into the Cameo "C" Seam for a period of three months to evaluate the <br />feasibility of mining the Cameo "C" Seam. <br />The conditions evaluated were: <br /> <br />^ Roof and Floor <br />^ Mine Water Inflow <br />^ ROM Seam Quality <br />^ Continuity of Seam Thickness <br />^ Influence of Linears on Mining Conditions <br />^ The Amount of Spar in the "C" Seam <br />^ Washability of the "C" Seam <br />^ Determination of entry alignment to safely mine two seams. <br />The entry dimensions for the seven entries in the exploration mine are: <br />^ Crosscuts - 80 or 100 feet <br />^ Entries - 70 or 80 feet <br />Specific entry dimensions were varied due to cover and production <br />requirements. The projected cover in the exploration mine ranged from 200 to 1400 <br />feet. The entry widths were limited to 18 feet with a mining height ranging from 6.5 to <br />7.5 feet. The Cameo "C" Seam exploration area was chosen in consideration of its <br />location and minimal impact on the future mining of the Cameo "B" Seam. <br />1999 EXPLORATION AND MINING PLAN <br />The exploration of the C seam at the North Portal occurred during 1998 and <br />• <br />early 1999. The success of this exploration project encouraged Powderhorn to <br />submit a permit revision that outlined a new mining plan for the C-Seam. C-seam <br />mining under this plan began early in 1999. This mine plan has now been abandoned <br />as the Roadside Complex nears the end of its economic life.
