PURPQSE AND SOUPE OF STUDY
• This report presents the results of a geotedinical investigation
for the surface facilities at the Deserado Coal Mine located in
Sec. 11, T. 2 N., R. 101 W., approximately 12 miles northeast of
Rangely, Colorado. The project location is shown on Fig. 1. The
study was conducted in accordance with our proposal to Ford Bacon b
Davis Utah, Inc., dated May 22, 1980.
A field exploration program and geologic reconnaissance were
conducted to obtain information on the surface and subsurfact~
conditions. Sartples of the material obtained during the field
investigation were tested in the laboratory to provide data on the
engineering characteristics and classification of the on-site soils
and rocks. The results of the field and laboratory investigations are
presented in Appendices A and B.
• This report has been prepared to summarize the data obtained and
present our conclusions and recommendations based on the conditions
encountered. Design par3rteeters and a discussion of geotechnical
engineering considerations related to construction of the proposed
facility are included.
P13~POSED
The Deserado Coal Mine will be a 2,000,000 ton per year under-
ground mine with related surface processing and transportation
facilities. Coal will be mined underground and transported to surface
facilities at the D Portal for :~!ushing, screening and washing. Waste
material from the washing process will be transported on a haul road
. to disposal sites in the permit area.
-1-
